scott r Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Hi - hope you can possibly advise...My wife's Mark 1 Galaxy (V reg - 2000) is a 2.3 auto petrol. Gearbox was fine until yesterday when I got in and could not get the button on the gearstick to go in so I can move to 'drive' etc...After kicking the tyres and looking for fault lights etc (which there were not any) I pushed the brake pedal a bit harder a couple of times and 'presto' in went the gearstick button and off I went. The engine has started no problems every time and the car seems OK when going. When I stopped I had the same problem again. Incidentally I do have issues with the driver door wiring, where the windows and mirrors don't work, but don't think this is related. Any advice on test / checking is welcomed...Thanks. Quote
alan_131 Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Only guessing but do you have to put your foot on the brake pedal normally before the button will go in? The brake switch (about £10 ish if you need a new one may need resetting (easy when you know how). Quick search thru the forum will point you in the right direction. try under cruise control if ou can't find it directly.Good luck Quote
scott r Posted July 24, 2012 Author Report Posted July 24, 2012 Cheers for this Alan - I will have a gander now - makes logical sense now you mention it... Quote
matmcn Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 Not sure if you've sorted it but I would also suggest the brake switch. Easy enough to change solong as you can bend your wrist in 5 directions at the same time. As for the electrics in the door check the rubber gaiter carrying the wires to the door. A common fault is broken wires within the gaiter. Quick soldering job. Quote
