I recently purchased a January 2003 Galaxy 2.8i Ghia (ex Ford owned). Its been a great car so far, nearly new as it only had 1,500 miles on the clock. However my wife is gutted to find there is no CD fitted. The SatNav is a Blaupunkt RNS MFD unit and the car also has the media screens with a VHS player fitted in the rear offside cubby hole. I have started to ask around about fitting an autochanger but even the experienced guys start turning pale when I ask what can be done! Can I fit an autochanger and if so, will I find a spare lead and where would the autochanger actually go? HELP!

Hi

Fun time. I had the same problem, bought an ex demo loaded with extras, but unambe to play any cds. This subject has been covered on this site before, here is the link: CD with Sat Nav

The way I got around it was to buy an MP3 player and interface adapter to plug into the Aux socket and have not looked back since.

Anyway Jakey is the expert on all this.

You have a number of choices assuming you have the RNS sat nav kit that most galaxies and sharans have. Ford dealers don't know what they are talking about so just ignore them.

1) On the back of your unit, you will have a socket for a VW / Audi 6 disc changer. You can get one of these either from a VW dealership or ebay sometimes has these on for sale. Install this under the drivers seat - you will have to pass the bus cable through from the sat nav unit to under the seat where you mount the changer. Remember that the RNS unit is really a VAG product - it is not a Ford component - this is why they get lost.

2) If you do not want to fit a VW /Audi changer, you can buy an alternative one. BUT to do this, you will need to buy an interface adaptor to change the VW / Audi output on the back of your sat nav to the alternative one you choose. I know that Alpine and Sony do an interface to allow their changers to work. Again install the changer under the driver seat etc etc.

3) You could purchase a cd changer that has an FM modulator. This will basically plug into your fm aerial socket (and your aerial into the modulator). This will allow you to tune to a frequency on which you can hear you cd's. However, you will need to have an additional control box with a little display mounted somewhere on your dashboard to control the changer. Also, you will need to organise a separate power supply for the changer because with this option, you have no bus lead that delivers current from your sat nav unit. Again the changer can be mounted under the driver seat etc etc

4) The last option is probably the most costly but most versatile in some respects. On the back of your RNS unit, there is an auxiliary line input - but to use this you will need to buy a multi media adaptor /interface box that costs about

Hi,

I have the same set-up, a VHS Multimedia and the Sat Nav on a 2002 2.3 Ghia with all the extras.

I placed a similar request on this board about a year ago.

I finally got it sorted by an audio guy. He placed a Sony CD Changer under the front passenger seat along with a 'Sony to VW' interface which in turn plugged into the back of the Sat Nav.

The thing didn't work initially until the interface was changed but now everything works as it should.

The position under the front passnger seat is perfect as you can reach it whilst sitting in the driver's seat. It is bolted to the seat itself so when you slide the seat back and forth it doesn't cause a problem.

The guy's name is Sanjay and he runs an audio business in north London. His number is 0208 8686703. The Ford dealer CD Bramall in St. Albans put me on to him at the time.

All the best.

Jonathan

Thanks to 879JTT, Dally and Warnerj for all your help. I was born in Swansea but I live in West London so I will definitely be contacting Sanjay to get this sorted. This site is amazing! Thanks again guys.

Just to let you know that I contacted Sanjay. He actually came round to my home address and fitted the changer, which is a Sony CDX-T69. The changer is under the front passenger seat and works perfectly. He did a brilliant job, everything put back neatly and all working first time. I certainly recommend him to anyone else who needs a changer fitted.

Glad to know Sanjay helped you too. I'm thinking of getting him to fit a subwoofer in the car because I don't know about you but I think the bass is a little lacking.

I'm not a thump thump dance music fanatic but I do like to feel quality bass especially at low volumes. I find the sat nav/CD Changer system in the Galaxy doesn't produce as much bass as the 2001 Mondeo I had but I think that has to do with the sheer size and shape of the Galaxy.

I'll let you know if the sub makes a big difference and let you know what the model is and where it will be placed.

Cheers.

Yup - I have also thought the bass a little lacking for an upmarket version. I'd be very interested to know what Sanjay comes up with. Despite its size there don't seem to be many places that a sub-woofer would fit neatly into in the Galaxy. Good Luck and let me know. B)
