If you gonna scrap it then stick a screwdriver in the tank! Obviously, have a large container to catch the diesel though.

As its a plastic fuel tank, it would be easier to (hand)drill a small hole in it, and then stick a bung back in as, presumably, you'll have to drive it to the scrapyard. My local scrap merchant pays by weight and I reckon you'll get only about £200 for it. You would probably get considerably more on ebay as the parts values can add up to quite a bit. If its a good engine, that'll be worth a fair bit.

I don't suppose its got headlamp washers on it?

seat kid send me a diagram of the headlight washer and i will see if its easy to get off, you have been helpful over the years ta

Anyone know if i take the hose off the fuel filter and attache a pump can i simply pump the tank dry from the engin compartment not needing to stab the tank or muck about with the sender unit?

I drained my tank the other day (someone put petrol in the TDi) with one of those cheap hand pup things, the type with the cylindrical bellows, and a long length of tubing. There doesn't appear to be any anti-syphoning devices in the filler neck.
