i have a 51 plate ford galaxy was running sweet till i came back from a distant drive then wouldnt idle correctly revs up n down also puffs out a bit a black smoke which im thinking could be caused by a vacuum leak also had new air control valve replaced which is also the correct one for my car im looking at buying two new lambda sensors however not sure if this will help . could someone please give an insite to whats going on and does anyone know of any vacuum pipes that are prone to leaking anywhere around the block any advice would be great thanks

Sorry gregers, never checked his profile. :glare:

In that case, OP, i would have suggested the idle control valve - located on top of inlet manifold, 2 bolts and 1 electrical connector , but since you have already replaced that then i would definitely be checking the vacuum pipes for perishing or simply pulled off. O2 sensor would help, but check all pipes first.

thanks for your advice guys i have replaced almost all of the vacuum pipes someone suggested to check injection manifold for cracks but couldnt locate any also replaced lambda on the cat however not the one on the front pipe cant get hold of one and main dealer is very pricey when i fit the new egr it ticks over but as soon as i give it a rev it stays above 3500rpm and dosent drop but when ive got the old egr valve on it ticks over however its bouncing between 500rpm to a 1000 rpm and shoots out a tad a black smoke and wondering whether its an ecu fault not telling the egr to close or even open but am pretty sure its a vacuum escape.
