seatkid Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 (edited) To be honest, any car with a non working gearbox, especially auto box, is worth only scrap value. To have a new auto box fitted is well north of £1000 (if you can get a cheap auto box, they are as rare as hens teeth). Try ebay, maybe someone needs a donor car, but I doubt you'll get anywhere near £1100. If you bought it from a trader , and the autobox went kaput soon after, you should go back to the trader and demand your money back as required by law. Possibly the same with a private sale, though this is not covered by law. Edited July 4, 2012 by seatkid Quote
Gteuk Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 I think law does cover this for private trade also under sales of goods act and fit for purpose, As far as I am aware sales of goods act covers all transaction to the consumer. If the private person has said it runs perfectly with no problems and a week or so down the line it fails due to major mechanical failure (a gearbox is noticable way before total failure). the only crap that gets in the way is "sold as Seen" I would prefer the wording to be "sold as described" however sold as seen along with the advertised description can be enough to get money back.
