Guest Libby Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Hi - sorry another Air con problem. I have a Galaxy 1.9TD 1999. Two weeks ago - the cylinder was re-filled as there was no cold air at all, now, the car has just come back from the local garage to have the fan checked, as each time I switch the fan full on (4) and then press the Air con switch, there is a droning noise, then intermittent clicking, there is cold air for a few seconds, then normal temperature air. If I am driving at the time, with each intermittent click, the engine seems to lose power and then back up again. Today, they said there was nothing wrong with the fan, it is running freely, etc. they have wd40'd the bearings in it, they had the car running for 10 mins, using the air con with no probs. Then, on my way home, it started again droning, clicking etc. Used it in France last year for two weeks solid - no probs at all, due to go back in 4 weeks, but need to get this sorted before we go - does anyone know whats happening? Thanks Libby Quote
ridway Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 From what you describe I would say the drone is from the rad fans running at max speed, they are noisy and not always well balanced; this is not really a problem. The click and working for a short time sounds like the system is working buit low on refrigerant charge. Is there a slight hissing noise while it briefly works? Run the blower at the lowest speed when yiou switch on the aircon. If you can detect this hiss which will probably disappear when it goes warm then the gas charge is too low. Note that the hiss is not always detectable. Rich Quote
ridway Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 I ve just re read your post, correctly this time. How often does the clicking occur? You say it has been recharged recently. A symptom of too frequent clicking in and out of the compressor clutch and the fans running at full speed, is an over charged system ( too higher condensor pressure). Rich Quote
