hi guys

newbie here

ive got a 1.9tdi 2002 ford galaxy

i recently replaced the car battery as it was old and needed changing, ever since the battery change the centrol locking is out of sync, i cant open my doors with the remote fob and when using the key only the drivers door opens, i have to manually open all the other doors by hand.

the remote key fob and the black ford key were all working fine until the car battery change.

any help would be appreciated

thankss guys

Hi and welcome. Have you got the manual/handbook for the car as it's in there that shows you how to syncronise the keyfob, if not, then there is numerous posts on here that tells you how. If that does not work, then check the wiring loom between the drivers door as it's a well known fact for cables to fray over time.

I had the same problem with the missus whilst doing her shopping, came out, no opening of doors with fob. I haven't had the chance to look at the wiring loom yet. If that fails, then an auto-electrician will be visited soon as i miss opening the doors from a distance!

thanks for the advice

i think i need to programme central locking first and then the key fob using the programme mode.

all was well until car battery was changed over.

thanks.

It sounds like you aren't getting power to the Central Locking at all. If you have the manual check which fuse(s) are for the Central Locking and check those.

I also have a nagging recollection, particularly bearing in mind thta the battery has just been changed, that you can have similar issues if one of the wires connected to the battery has not been refitted, though I may be wrong. Here's a picture of my 2005 TDI(130) Ghia with the battery out.

As you can see there are two extra brown wires coming off the terminal. I would check those first myself (because it's easy!)

(i) Are they connected? - Is the nut tight?

(ii) I suspect one will be earthed to the bodywork. If so check that the other end is grounded properly.

(iii) I would also disconnect the wires from the negative end of the battery for 10-15min just to see if that will "reset" something. It shouldn't do any harm. Mine was disconnected overnight while I was working on it and everything just worked (once I'd put the radio code in).

While your there open the little fuse box under the battery cover that the battery positive wire goes to. The crimp to the biggest wire at the top has a habit of failing so that the wire overheats and this can melt the fuse box like mine :(

ok, just double checked all the wires and everything is fine, battery clamps all nice and tight and all fuses working too.

ive done the central locking reset programme by switching ignition on and of 4 times and now the central locking works only from the drivers door switch but not with the key or fob from outside.

ive also tried the fob key programming by turning the drivers door lock 3 times in the unlock position but the led in the door still doesnt light up.

i reckon ive just gotta keep trying the fob programming and see how it goes

thanks everyone

Exactly the same senario I'm in. Let us know what you find out, you may help me out at the same time but i still think my problem lies at the door pillar wire gaitor, just need to wait for some decent weather and a day off from work to investigate.

FWIW I'd be following Saif's train of thought.

Though it's a bit of a coincidence for the wire to fail at the exact time you changed the battery, they are notorious - and if you usually use the fob, perhaps it could have gone a day or two before? If the wire has gone, you can't work central locking unlock from door lock or trigger the re-sync sequence...

This from the faq shows how to check http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/8401-checking-wires-from-door-to-pillar/page__p__64104&do=findComment&comment=64104

- and on mine the locking ring was loose so didn't even need any tools to check.
