Hi all can anyone tell me where i can locate a fan control relay Ford part no: YM21 8C616 AA or VW part no : 7M5 919 506. Frauds want £90+ cough cough :( It's the one located under the engine bay fuse box in front of the battery and has no 419 stamped on the end?

cheers

Just a thought but is there any chance you can repair the old one? Though some of these have clever electronics to go wrong inside, sometimes if you open it up you're lucky and the fault is mendable if you or someone you know is handy with a soldering iron... Edited by alan_131

Good point. A lot of the relays seem to fail due to poor solder joints. Others have successfully fixed Relay (109's ?). I think that there is a thread somewhere that shows before and after shots.

Had a look at the old one (ex Sony electronics enginner) and to be honest everything looks ok no dry joints, welded contacts etc so thought simplest thing to change and see untill i found out how much they are :( i have an issue with both fans coming on (climate switched off) and staying on after engine switched off, also coming on early before they are actually required, engine cold etc. Possibly a component issue Edited by mikej

Ok peeps can anyone provide an electrical diagram for the fans and relay, changed thermal switch and relay and problem still persists and can't find my tis disk so if anyone can help and put up a drawing for the cooling system on the mk2 2001 2.3 petrol i will forever be in your debt?

thanks

Mike......

Still desperately looking for the correct diagram if anyone can help, Both fans are off now when car is started (climate is switched off) and only come on together once the engine reaches a good temp which my understanding is this is normal if i watch the temp reading on laptop using live data the temp does go down again once the fans kick in, but even though the temp drops way below that of when the fans switched on they refuse to go off, even when i switch the car off and walk away they will run untill the battery is flat so i have to keep pulling the thermal switch lead off to stop them? I have replaced the control relay and the thermal switch (even though the old one tested fine) but my suspicion is there is another relay that's stuck. There is a diagram in the Haynes manual showing two relays 136&137 however i don't have them and i'm stuck without a drawing?

Silverbeast thanks for this, the first thing i notice though is the relay numbers don't match any of mine i would like to know where the hell is K151 as i feel this may be the issue also don't have a k45 either , apparently there are many versions of fuse box fitted to mine as of 05/2001 . I have relays 100 x 2,167,185,411,143 and relay 30 if anyone can shed some light on these then please do. Will have a look into the diagram, thanks again top man :) Edited by mikej

Apologies if you already know, but you do realise the fuse box has 3 layers don't you?

If you look in the FAQ's here it shows you how to access the bottom two layers. There are relays on the bottom two layers.

Yes cheers Silver beast :) my problem at the moment is Ford are not making it any easier when the relay numbers in the fuse box differ from those on the diagrams, the FAQ link looks identical to mine as far as the relays shown in photo but from a diagram point of view i would be looking for K151 and K45 which i don't have, the ones i listed previously are all the relays in the box. All i need now is to know what each one does :D

I think I had similar issues the Numbers on the relays are to do with configuration if the relay and how much power they can handle and not linked to the Wiring Information. I believe the K numbers may be on the plastic of the relay frames on each of the layers. Look at these. In TIS they are linked via the bue boxes to show the locations of each of the relays in the Layer 2 and Layer 3. I think K151 is in the second layer. TIS says K45 "best view" is "engine compartment front"

I can't thank you enough bud for the diagrams, i have actually got a TIS disk somewhere if i could find it lol. Yeh K45 you mention is the relay 419 i mention in my original post, this is the one that's £90 from Frauds. I have already replaced it though as this was my first port of call and i didn't pay that price either, robbing gits!

That's one for the moderators to look at, I can't download them either and I posted them.  I get a

Hi silverbeast yes thats the message i am getting, how do i contact the moderators? do you have the wiring diagram for the cooling system, could you email it to me? I have just bought a 03 galaxy 2.3 ghia, the radiator fans wont kick in, but work on the AC. Any ideas? i presume its the sensor or relay.
