mzokk Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 Hi Folks, I am a numpty. I have a 2005 Galaxy 115TDI tha last couple of times I've changed the oil I've used a vacuum pump. The pump has a two piece pipe to reach the bottom of the sump. Today when I was changing the oil only one piece came out so I have to drop the sump to get the pipe out. I've taken off the undertray radiator pipe bracket that attaches to the sump and a few long bolts that attach it to the gearbox. At one side of the sump the bolts (10mm hex head with allen centres) the bolts are recessed at a funny angle. Any hints or tools that make getting to these easier? Many thanks. Quote
seatkid Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 (edited) Ball ended allen keys? Maybe this diagram will help If the pipe is still in the dipstick tube maybe poke a stiff wire down and fish it out. I might be wrong but looking at that diagram, maybe the dipstick tube can be removed. Edited May 30, 2012 by seatkid Quote
gregers Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 OOOOOOOPPPPPPPSSSSSS you numpty.:Dno idea m8,but next time i use mine i might glue mine together  Quote
mzokk Posted June 4, 2012 Author Report Posted June 4, 2012 Thanks for the help. Used a long ball ended 5mm allen key to get at the awkward bolts fairly straight forward to remove the sump clean the old sealer off and replace. Noticed the right hand inner CV boot had gone and replaced that while I was at it! For information when I removed the sump there was less than 100ml of old oil in the sump (along with the rest of the tube of course!!) so it looks like sucking the oil out of the sump removes most of the old oil, so I wont worry about that any more once I've modified mu pump to ensure that a one piece pipe is sufficent to reach the bottom of the sump!! :o) Quote

sparky Paul Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 Most modern engines are designed to have the oil extracted by vacuum, so the lowest point is under the dipstick tube and very little is left in the sump. I just wish my pump would work with the 2.3 petrol, all the gubbins in the sump stops you getting the pipe to the bottom. Quote
