Hi there, I am running a 55 plate 1.9TDI Galaxy 130bhp.

Over the past coupld of months I have been getting problems starting, 90% of the time it is O.K but

then at times it takes several attempts.

I have also experienced the engine cutting out completely whilst driving, I stop and restart the engine

and all is O.K again.

It also has cut out dead whilts ticking over a few times.

Any ideas what the problem may be??

Help!!!

Hi. I'm a newbie too but as you could see from my posts suddenly a big fan of vagcom (usb cable under £10 on ebay, free software download for the basic version).

This would let you read any codes which can be a pointer. I wonder if the immobiliser is cutting in ? On some cars - sorry don't know if yours is one affected - the ring that reads the code from your key can move a bit and upset things. I've also seen people say they've had issues with more than one key on a ring though I have three different ones (2 tdi galaxy, 1 fiat) and not had a problem. Or of course you might have a "proper" problem..

Could you describe the failed starts in a bit more detail - on my mk1s if it's the immobiliser, it starts and dies immediately and led confirms issue...

I'm sure the experts here will be able to help you properly. Good luck!

When this happens while driving, do you get a orange coil light come up on the dash until the power returns?

If the power doesn't return (and yours is an auto) can you restart in neutral while coasting?

Will this happen 10 times in 2 miles and then be fine for the next 10?

If the answer is yes to all of these questions then I know what your problem is

ITS THE SAME DAMB PROBLEM I HAVE WITH MINE

I bought mine only last week thinking it would be a quick fix and have checked the 109 relay and changed the fuel filter but still no better.

The biggest issue I have with this fault is that it is so sporadic, when you want it to happen to show a garage mechanic it won't

It also doesn't leave any fault codes on the cars ecu, maybe its a virus...

both problems sounds like a crank sensor ,the coil light doubles as engine management .
