I've been told by an auto-electrician that the airbag control module on my '03 zetec 1.9tdi is faulty, which is why the airbag light is continuously illuminated.

Can anybody tell me where this module is located and how I get to it ~ I think it may be in the centre console somewhere, but I can't see where to start.

Can these be repaired, or is it a trip to the breakers yard? Are they all the same, or must it come off another car of the same year, with same zetec spec and diesel?

Lots of questions here, but hopefully, you guys can point me in the right direction.

I can't tell you if the ecu's are all the same, but are you sure it's the ecu? I believe that airbag warning is commonly caused (at least on the mk 1) by a failed "clock spring" (it links the driver's air bag to the column). I think there's some sort of rule about used airbag parts but what the legal status is.... they do occasionally come up on ebay. Seem to remember VCDS-lite (cable under

Its highly unlikely the ECU itself is faulty - get a second opinion!

Its bolted (x2) to the floor, if you follow the centre tunnel as far back towards the bulkhead as you can go then you'll be in the right place - its behind the plastic there, basically between the two footwells. If you have ESP then you'll have another module sitting on top of it.
