Guest livvy3 Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Hi all. we have just had our air con topped up after buying the car with it not working (didn't realize til it got hot!!) is it normal for a hissing noise coming from it after the engine is turned off? sorry to be a bit dumb but we have never noticed this problem with previous air-con cars and wanted some advice before going back to the garage and making a fool of ourselves! many thanks, Marie. johnb80 Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Yes it's normal. The refrigerant can be in two states gas or liquid. If the compressor is running the high pressure side (liquid) will gas off to the low pressure side (gas) and making a hissing sound. Not a problem, enjoy the cool air. Regards - John Quote
Guest livvy3 Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Thanks John, was a bit worried as it went on for about an hour, gradually getting quieter and i had visions of all the gas escaping! thanks again, Marie, Quote
johnb80 Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 I've never heard it continue for that length of time BUT it has been hot. Regards - JB Quote
