Eamonmac Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 Hey again.Im new to Ford ownership (2003 Galaxy Mk 2 1.9 TD) and the Ford Galaxy owners club board. I currently have the standard stereo system from the factory and would like to upgrade the stereo. I would also like to use my Iphone to play some music thru the stereo (Via bluetooth if possible) and maybe make and place calls if it wasn't too expensive. Anyone got any suggestions ?? Cheers Quote
jonstone Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 I'm also interested in this for my 2003 Galaxy which currently has the 6006 single CD Ford radio. If I understand correctly, then only way to get a double DIN unit in the Galaxy, is to get the new black facia surround from Ford (the same one that is factory fitted for sat nav), and also change the various switches - like heated screens, etc. Reason for asking is that there appears to be some people selling double DIN cages/fixing kits for Mk11 Galaxy but I assume there are misleading and will not work. Mirez Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 Theres a LOT of ambiguity on Ebay!!! A conventional headunit is a single DIN unit. Ford's of the Mk2 Era use a weird size being DIN 1.5 and it's only the factory NAV (MFD) unit thats a proper DIN 2 unit. You'll see a lot of adverts on ebay for DIN 1.75 and 2 units which just isn't correct so beware! The two options available are to get a 0.5 Blanking plate, these are widely available and take the Galaxy's DIN 1.5 hole down to the conventional single DIN - you'll need a standard "Cage" then to hold your new headunit in place. The other option is indeed to convert the console to the NAV panel (You don't have to change switches BTW, it just looks a hell of a lot better if you do) and this option will allow you to fit any double DIN unit in place. Beware though you'll drastically restrict your choice of headunits if you do this as there arn't that many double din ones out there. Wiring wise in nearly all cases you'll need a Ford to ISO adapter. 99% of head units use the ISO standard (8 pin plugs) these days (including most factory head units in modern cars) and you'll pick this cable up easily. Richard Morgan Posted June 26, 2012 Report Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) Hi all - Forum Newbie here!If I do decide to go the double DIN route and purchase the Nav panel facia from Ford, switches such as the heated screen, rear screen, front parking sensors and hazards etc are mentioned insofar as I could use the original switches from my 2004 Ghia Tdi but they look bad. What can I replace them with for a tidy standard look install? The other thing is, will my digital climate control unit (standard on the Ghia?) fit straight in? or do I have to modify fitting location using the Nav Double DIN facia from ford?Advice please.ThanksRichard Edited June 26, 2012 by Richard Morgan Quote
