Guest raj Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I have a x plate 2000 new shape 115ps tdi ghia auto. recently its started to have poor performance, ie speed drops off going up hills and kick down does nothing. searched through the forum and sounds like it may be a maf fault. my question is when you disconnect the maf sensor, if the performance stays the same does that mean the maf is faulty or not. Also intermittently on startup the engine revs away madly for a couple of seconds before idling. is this related to the performance probs or a different issue. any help welcome The cars only done about 30000 miles Quote
charles Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 when there is no difference the MAF could be defective. a ford dealer can measure if the MAF is between it's normal range with their diagnostics software.but rare at 30,000miles. Quote
Dave-G Posted June 11, 2004 Report Posted June 11, 2004 In my experience, If the gal runs better with the maf unplugged,it indicates a fault. Quote
Guest raj Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Basically the car runs the same with the maf plugged in or not, can't feel any difference. One thing I have just realised is that I don't hear the turbo winding down any more. could this be a turbo prob and how can I tell/test for this? Quote
rwtomkins Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Turbo winding down? If you mean that whining noise when you switch off the engine, it's not the turbo, it's either one of the kids or more likely the aux heater, correctly named the booster heater, which would have stopped operating when the warmer weather arrived. There are lots of previous threads on this. Quote
