Hi all,

I have a 2001 petrol Galaxy and its great, no issues other than once every so often the car wont start and the immobilizer light in the driver's door flashes very fast. I have to lock and then unlock the car a few times and then it starts and runs fine. been like it for a while but since Im about to service the old Gal I thought I may have a crack at fixing it. Any ideas fellas (and lasses)?

If its relevant, the battery in the key fob fell out the other day (it was the original battery) and now that set of keys doesn't work to open or run the car (does it need reprogramming?) but the immobilizer issue has been present for about 2 years now anyway so i dont suppose its the key.

thanks all,

Could be the relay 30 problem, there's a good entry in the FAQ section

If the key no longer starts the car, you probably lost the PATS chip for the immobiliser when the key came apart. Try to remember where the key came apart, and look for the little black chip, see here.

The remote locking is a different issue, and the procedure for coding the keys to the car is also in the FAQ section.

hi chaps, brilliant advice, I have just opened the key - no chip, so I went outside and looked in the dark with my big 'man torch' and hey presto, there it was, sitting on the drive from a month ago, dropped it in, and the key fob now works. Drop of super glue to keep it in place for when the missus busts it again!

thank you.

Im doubly pleased because the car also has a knocking from the front suspension and reading other posts it seems very likely to be the drop links - well pleased - excellent forum, thanks all
