Airrex7 Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 (edited) Galaxy M2, 03 plate 2.3 Ghia 16v petrol Hi, Having searched this site and found out how to undertake what I hope is a simple repair, I went looking a little while ago for the cruise control vacuum pump. I know what it looks like, (I think ), but having removed the passenger side headlight unit, I couldn't find it. I have to get under the car in the next few days to replace a starter motor, once the undershield is removed, will I find the pump,( passenger side ), or am I looking in the wrong place? Hi Take the passenger plastic wheel arch out thats held on with screws and you will find it tucked away and screwed/bolted to the inner wing . I think removing the headlight was for the MK1. Quote
Airrex7 Posted March 24, 2012 Author Report Posted March 24, 2012 Thanks. Would you know if the procedure for the simple fix of triming the vacuum hose/tube and refixing is the same on the MK2 as for the MK1? Quote
mikej Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 I have a mk2 same model as yours and spent 2 yrs trying to fix it and guess what once i did i don't ever use it lol  Anyhow it is indeed behind the passenger indicator secured to the inner wing. Believe me there are alot of areas that can cause failure not just a seized pump or split pipe and yes you can be lucky and just trim the pipe. I would recommend you do a search on here because it has definately been covered many times and there should be a wealth if tips .best of luckmike. Quote
seanwhu Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Hi yes it is the same Mk1 or 2. I replaced the whole pipe and found mine had split at the T piece in the drivers footwell high up above the pedals, no problems since. Quote
mikej Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 That's were my fault was in fact i'm sure i posted a lengthy report on here as to how i found it, you should be able to find it even if it was a few years ago? there are also a few second hand pumps on fleebay if it turns out that is your problem . Airrex7 Posted March 25, 2012 Author Report Posted March 25, 2012 (edited) Galaxy M2, 03 plate 2.3 Ghia 16v petrol Thanks for the replies. There are 2-3 smallish jobs I have to do on the Galaxy all are pretty much covered here on the site, although I have to say I didn't find any thing that stated that vacuum pump was bolted to the inner NS wing on a MK2, I spent ages crooking my neck looking into space occupied by NS lamp unit. I know the cruise control is/will work, ( I think ), 'cause when I operate it via the switch the cruise indicator comes on, so I guess that's a good sign. I fixed on the advise here on site that it was the tube/hose to the pump that needs trimming and re-fixing, it never occurred to me there is another place it might fail. How do I get/reach T/join if it's up in drivers well,---I mean do I just pull back carpet. If I need to replace parts( not vacuum ),is it a Ford purchase, can I get tubing/T-Join/hose from a motor factor? Apart from replacing the starter motor the other job is the rear washer wiper,---no wash reaching the screen. Apparently it is a common fault, something to do with the washer tubing by the inside NS sill. What I don't understand is there is no damp in the NS front well or under pasenger seat, is there something else I should check first before removing trim? ( washer bottle is full ).
