More Locking Problems

hi all, i have just aquired a mk1 2.3 galaxy and was hoping your wisdom can help me solve a couple of central locking issues i have,

Firstly i only have one key fob, which doesnt appear to work, fob light comes on but nothing else, i have tried to re program the fob and led flashhes as it should, but the car doesnt seem to accept the fob, the car goes into programming mode but the door led doesnt flash at the end of th programming sequence, the second problem i have which is probably related, is that i had to free up the drivers key barrel as it was siezed, it seems fine now apart fom the fact i think its backwards i have to turn it clockwise to unlock and anti cw to lock.

is this normal???

ps i dont think there is a problem with the way i am programming the fob as i am an ex mechanic who has prgrammed a fair few of these in the past
