Lithgae Broon Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 After buying a nearly new galaxy titanium x and discovering that the tonneau cover did not have a load protection net I ordered one on line. To be clear, this is the type that can be installed behind the rear seats to prevent all your belongings decapitating you in the event of an accident. I was aware that there were no locating points to support the top bar of the net so I was keen to see the instructions and see how the thing is supposed to be installed. It turns out that you have to hack a hole in the roof lining and remove seat belts and trim in order to uncover the locating lugs and install a plastic cover. Why ford didn't install these as standard is beyond me. Anyway, undeterred I thought I would do the job myself. The instructions include a handy template which you align to mark out a square on the roof lining. You will need a good Stanley knife, socket set with a six pointed fitting to remove the seatbelts and various screwdrivers. The key thing to understand is the innacuracy of the templates. I had a gut feeling these would be rubbish and I was right. My advice is position the templates on the roof lining as per the instructions and then cut out a small square in the middle of the marked area to see if you are on target. My first attempt to position the template following the instructions was 15mm out but because I had made the test hole I could move the marked out square alongmto make sure the locating lug was in the middle of the cut out. If I hadn't done this I would have been left with a huge hole in the roof lining and the plastic cover would have been useless. You have been warned. Once installed correctly (as mine is now!!!) the net appears robust and fits perfectly. You could always ask your local ford dealer to do this but this would probably cost a lot and I would question whether they would actually do as good a job as you could do yourself by taking your time assuming of course you can turn your hand to this type of fiddly job. Good luck if you decide to try it yourself. Quote
