Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on my N reg 2000cc petrol Galaxy is making a high pitched whine.

 

I see from the Haynes manual that the pumped circuit is always preasurised on a loop circuit back to the tank.

 

Will it be the pump that has gone or will it be the petrol returning to the tank making the noise. I dont wat to buy a new pump and strip it down to find out its not the pump.

have you had the fuel filter changed recentlyif its partially blocked this can cause the pump to struggle. if you have, can you use/ get hold off a multimeter with amp measurement on it ,if you can do both let me know and i will sort out the spec's for the pump

Thanks Topbloke, will change filter first to see if that works (back to the Haynes manual to see where that is)
