Guest Ian Hampton Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 Hello Chaps (and Chappesses), I've just had a nice big bill, on my '96 V6 Ghia, from the local VW garage.Eight Hundred and fifty of her majesty's finest, for 12 cam followers, new cam chain + tensioner.Asked for the old parts, and they gave me the followers (to my untrained eye they looked undamaged) anyone know anything about how they work/fail. They couldn't produce the cam chain..... said it must have been thrown away....Anyway the reason for the big bill they said was to change the cam chain the auto box had to be dropped, to access the chain? Hence 10.5 hrs labour.Does this sound kocher??They did fix the top end noise, and gave the beast a wash, but have I been had....? cheers, Ian. Quote
Guest shackers Posted March 5, 2003 Report Posted March 5, 2003 I don't know about anyone else but using Ford as a service agent isn't the best experience in the world. I am [a number of years ago] a fully qualified Mechanic and used to be the Aftersales Manager at a Daewoo Outlet {Yes, For my Sins}. I bought {the second one I've owned} a 97 2.8 CD Ghia V6.... and I love em... Why then get it serviced? I decided to keep the Service History up to date I'd let Premier Ford do a Major Service and let's face it. When I was a mechanic we dealt with webber carbs and the like.. now it's all engine management, chips, wires..... arrrr... sooooo I parted with Quote
