seanwhu Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Hi Only this week a noise has started under the hood which I can only describe as a bird attached to something making a Cheep cheep noise that goes up and down with the revs ????? I have a 2.3 2001 and the noise is around the alternator/belt area. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks all Quote
sparky Paul Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 If your alternator belt looks okay, most common problems are the belt tensioner and/or idler pulley. Quote
wjfe Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 What Sparky said. Mine goes in on Wednesday to be repaird. Quote
pearly king of surbiton Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 it sounds like the plastic pulley wheel with sealed bearings.you may be able to grease the bearing by smearing grease around the bearing and working it into the bearings.you remove the belt to spin the pulley wheel by attaching a socket onto the pulley wheel bolt and a long levering arm and turning anticlockwise to slacken th band, then slip the band off.you can then grease the wheel by spinning it.if the pulley wheel fails it is not serious but time consuming to source a replacement off ebay for 30 pounds. a new one costs 150 pounds because you can opnly buy the pulley wheel and tensioner assembly (nice one Ford!) all the bestjohn Quote
sparky Paul Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 The idler pulley costs around Quote
dbc Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 Agreed. Ford have changed the pully to a metal one as the plastic ones don't last too well. As mentioned don't get ripped off buying a new tensioner assembly. The idler pulley can be used to replace the tensioner pulley.... Quote
