Guest lawton Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 Can a dealer with VAG-COM cable and disk read fault codes from my Galaxy or do I have to take it to Ford? What if anything does the Ford system do that the VAG one doesn't?Without wanting to open a can of worms, is it possible to buy the VAG-COM or WDS2000 cables and software? MrT Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 You can buy vag-com from Vag Com UK or the manufacturer Vag Com It works with Galaxies with the VW/Ford range of engines. Quote
_dg Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 Search the forum for previous threads on this. VAG-COM will not read any of my Galaxy codes as the pre-facelift models weren't OBD compliant and were Ford propriatary electronics. It may read your diesel engine stuff though, as this is VW made It will read the post-facelift models Quote
MrT Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I found it interesting today when I was trying to use VAGCOM as the dealer had forgotten to reset the service reminder at my recent service. When the engine is designed for fixed servicing as recommended by Ford (12,000miles or 1 year) certain fields are required to be reset. However on mine these fields do not exist as my engine is set up for variable interval servicing. But the whole thing works around the quality of oil used, if you set it to low quality oil, it behaves as if it requires fixed interval servicing, if the oil is set to long life/better quality, the service interval depends on the way the car is used. To a cynic like me, it appears that Ford has disabled the variable interval servicing to ensure their dealers get more business. Quote
