Mikef Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 HI Everyone, hope you are all well. The drivers door window on my 02 Galaxy has become very erratic in its operation. Ford tell me I need a new Window Motor and Regulator, and have kindly offered to fit one for a little over Quote

Mikef Posted January 28, 2012 Author Report Posted January 28, 2012 Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I just checked and the loom looks fine... There are lots of motors on ebay, just need to make sure I get the right part. cheers Quote
seatkid Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) In my experience a motor either works or it doesnt. I would check your switches and wiring first before you jump in and change the regulator. Carefully double check the wiring in the rubber gaitor as this is a known problem area. Mikef Posted January 28, 2012 Author Report Posted January 28, 2012 Cheers SK, I did check the wiring in the gator and cant see any obvious problems, but I will re check...have just been playing, and the window will go down in stages with several presses of the switch. Then to get it back up you keep using the switch over and over and it goes up in tiny steps, then it doesnt respond, then goes up a bit more...took about ten minutes to get the window all the way up. thanks m Quote
seatkid Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) First check its not because the overload/trapped object protection isnt tripping - assist the window with your hands - pulling it up or down while operating the switch - if it starts working then it indicates maybe the mechanism is stiff or jammed. If not then check the switch - maybe swap it for the passenger side and try. Edited January 28, 2012 by seatkid Quote
Mikef Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 Good suggestion on the switch...I've already tried the hand-assisted approach and no joy I'm afraid! cheers Quote
Mikef Posted January 30, 2012 Author Report Posted January 30, 2012 Had a quick look on ebay...there seem to be a lot of non OEM versions up for sale...which is interesting...at least I now know that I neeed a multi pin version for the one-touch functionality, which I hadnt realised before... Quote
gregers Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 i would take the regulator out and take it apart(be careful the wirw is like a coiled spring)and inspect the plastic spool inside,if the motor is working im thinking the spool has shreaded inside so the cable is over running and getting caught up within itself,if this is the case then you can get either a mk1 or mk2 regulator and carry out a transplant, the regulators going by info on here are different but i do know when i carried out repairs to mine the wires etc are the same,i had a mk1 regulator and a mk2 galaxy.iirc i posted about it on here somewhere. Quote
Mikef Posted January 31, 2012 Author Report Posted January 31, 2012 I will be having a better look at the problem this weekend...if its not too cold to work outside!! This has sparked a more generic thought tho...if I want to find the Ford part number for something, is there an online utility that lets me do that? cheers Quote
Mikef Posted February 21, 2012 Author Report Posted February 21, 2012 So after some investigation (aka 'messing about') I think its the switch thats the problem, so off to ebay I go...anything I need to be aware of? I guess its a unit which contains both switches that I need... cheers Quote
Mikef Posted February 27, 2012 Author Report Posted February 27, 2012 Well, fitted a new switch at the weekend ( Quote
