Just bought Galaxy Zetec 2.3 auto 2001 but driving it home the automatic gearbox really started to play up on the motorway.

I had given it a thorough test drive but not under the conditions that I was putting it through on the way home.Cruising at 70mph I thought I would see how much it had in her when I floored the accelerator to see what sort of kick down acceleration I could achieve. The car made the right noises but nothing happened except the revs went up but no acceleration what so ever. The car then seemed to slow as if power had been lost down to about 55/60 as if there was some kind of speed limiter to prevent any damage. The car gradually crept up to 70 but the kick down had no effect other than increased revs and a loud noise. After about 15 minutes of this everything did start to work again and car accelerated OK but not as well as expected.

I did try using the tiptronic gears but again lots of noise no acceleration just high revs

Car has done 115000 but reconditioned engine fitted 3500 miles ago.I have 3 young children so am now very worried that we may need to use the power to get out of trouble after all that is why I bought it, and it will let us down.

Any advice would be really appreciated
