Nicky & Rog Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 (edited) Hi, this is my first post so I do apologise if its not in the right section. I have a V reg galaxy that has bizarre electrical bahaviours. - Number plate lights say on even when lights are off, no key in ignition, and even if light switch completely turned off, even fuses removed. - The console back illumination also stays on as above. - If you remove the light switch control completely the number plate lights go out but the console lights stay on. - The central locking comes and goes. - The passenger electric window will drop on its own. - The drivers window control will not put passenger window up but will take it down, and the drivers window control doesnt work at all. Now over time I have found that these problem stop and start and also swap over ! i.e. the electric windows start working again but the central locking stops, when the central locking start the windows stop working... etc I have found one post on another forum with this exact same problem but no-one ever answered them. So at least it is not just my experience and Im not going bonkers alone ! Suggestions please. Thank you in advance.Rog n NIcky Edited January 20, 2012 by Nicky & Rog Quote
v6mikey Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I would suggest you inspect the wires in the doors and boot. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/8401-checking-wires-from-door-to-pillar/page__p__64104#entry64104 When they break they can cause all kinds of electrical gremlins. alan_131 Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 I've heard that water in the ecu can cause this problem - I think though on a 'V' the unit has moved it can still get wet. But, FWIW, on my 'R' plate a break in the thick brown wire in the black tube linking the driver's door to the jamb causes exactly the same window issues - so I'd echo V6Mikey's advice for any new readers. leightonwoody Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 id have to agree with mikey and check all the wires for each door inside the rubber gaters, these are very prone to breaking and arcking with other broken wires which could explain central locking and windows problems your having, it just happened to my neighbour when all his windows stopped working until he went round unplugging the wire connector on each door 1 at a time and isolated it to 1 door where the several wires inside had frayed and snapped and starting touching each other Quote
stewy Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 I had similar issues in my 2001 Galaxy and it turned out that the boot wiring had frayed and broken beneath the rubber gaiter and was causing all kinds of shorts and problems. 20 minutes with a soldering iron sorted it, check the door wiring too Stew Quote
