The drivers side front window has stopped working via the switch on door handle.

But the switch is working the passengers front window. But only down!!

Can this be the switch turned faulty??

Also can anyone please pinpiont where the window relay is

situated!? I cant find it !!

Would this be faulty too!?

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you

Check the wires in the rubber gaitor to the door. They often break or short out there. There are 3 topics in the Technical FAQ with pics on this problem. (Note the FAQs do not work with Microsoft internet explorer browser, use firefox, google or opera to access it.)

Have looked at the diagram suggested. No good.

Think mine is a mk2.

Totally different layout.

I have looked at the wires by the door. Theres no damaged wiring!!

So im thinking now it could be the switch on drivers door.

Anymore suggestion please!?

see if you can take out a switch from the other side and test it,if thats not working either then as seatkid says wire problem,it has been known for peeps to check there wires and say everything is ok,then when checking again they find the proplem.

It might also be a problem in the control box. If yours is a MK1 then it could be mounted under the passenger seat and got wet.

I have swapped the switches. And the passenger control switch is working the passenger side from my drivers side still!?

Thats weird. Lol.

So off to check the box under fr seat.

I have checked the box. Its dry as a bone in that area.

Checked fuses and they all ok too.

Think i will have to call a mechanic!?

Unless anyone got more suggestions for me!?

Thanks so far for all help

Take another careful look at the wires in the door gaitors. You need to check the passenger side as well as the drivers.

Do all windows work on global opening/closing? (using the key in the door locks held in unlock/lock positions)

I would say as far as the drivers only working to open, to remove the door card and examine the wiring in the door for broken wires/terminals.

There is no window relay AFAIK.

Yes all windows are electric. Turn key off and they stop working.

I have looked at all wiring closely with a neighbour.

He said he cannot see a fault with it.

I may just get a mechanic. Saves me a long job

Thanks all
