Ford Galaxy Owners Club

Hi - I am new to the forum and have read a few posts on the "Wobble"

I have a Ford Galaxy 2001 1.9 TDI MK2.

I have owned the car exactly 12 months.

The car started to wobble in short bursts intermittently about a month ago. I put it down to the front tyres being low on tread. I had four new tyres fitted and sent the car for it's first MOT under my ownership. The wobble at this point had become more frequent. The car passed it's MOT with one advisory - One alloy wheel was buckled.

I took the car back to the garage a week later and the mechanic took all the wheels off and rebalanced them. He put the buckled wheel from the front to the back.

The wobble became worse over the new few days. It starts at around 25 MPH and gets worse through to 60 MPH and fades out. The steering wheel does not shake - but the car seems to wobble from side to side. It stops if you dip the clutch and only gets worse the more I excelerate. It gets worse the further you drive.

I took a chance on it being the buckled alloy wheel at first (albeit against my better judgment) and took the car to PX Wheels in Blackpool and had a new set of full reconditioned alloys fitted. Drove out of the complex and it was the same. I'm not too bothered about paying for this as two other wheels had become difficult to balance and where starting to look tatty - even though I had them reconditioned by someone mobile and on the wheel when I bought the car.

The car is now booked into the local garage on Monday as it is suspected it could be a driveshaft or CV joint issue - which I have read about online.

I will keep you up to date and I hope the outcome will help someone else in the future.

Any tips or advise would be great.

Thank you Carl

Yip, I'd say it's the inner cv joint , could be either left or right. I believe its more cost effective (and will remove the need to replace the outer cvs in the future) to replace the complete driveshaft. If the mechanic grabs the inner end of the shaft and can move it ,even a fraction- cv is pooped! N

Just an update:- I had replaced the inner cv joints, on my 05 auto Galaxy last year, with the Polish cv joint which is supposed to be stronger than the original.

The wobble is starting to come back, sob sob. I think this time I'll replace the entire drive shaft. I guess I should have done that the first time?!!!?!?!?!?!?!?! Dammit!!!!
