Steering Noise

i have a mondeo 2.0 auto zetec year 2000 w reg, which is exhibiting a creaking noise when turning. It seems to be as if straining under the pressure. Does this indicate any wear or lubrication needed , or is this a known prob. My son has an identical car and has the same prob, but moreso.

I doubt its related, as its a very new car, but my 93 mk1 had broken a front coil spring. Perhaps its related?, i have since found out that mondeos are prone to this, im not sure if the new ones have been redesigned with this in mind.

 

I didnt notice any vehicle height drop, as the anti roll bar was taking the strain!
