sassenach Posted October 15, 2011 Report Posted October 15, 2011 Hi, first post here, hopefully not a repeat of someone else's (I did look first!) I have a mk2 2.3 auto zetec Y reg. Intermittently it doesn't start, the electrics come on but the engine won't turn over. It did this about a fortnight ago, then after ten minutes I recall hearing a click then then it started. Two days ago I had the same thing and again after a few minutes of trying it started (I think I had the ignition left on that time). Yesterday it wouldn't start at all so I called out the RAC and they got it going. Saying they thought it was either the immobiliser transducer in the ignition barrel or it would be something wrong with the immobiliser on the ECU itself. They advised not turning the engine off and taking over to a main dealer. I did just that, took it in and rang at the end of the day and they'd not managed to work out what was wrong as it had started first time each time they'd tried and couldn't replicate the fault. I've looked for a Haynes manual for this model but there doesn't seem to be one around. I thought worst case if it did it again I might be able to replicate what the RAC did and that way I could get it to the main dealer again. It is a pain of a fault because I'm led to believe you can't diagnose it if it's working but then if it's not working I can't get it to the garage! If anyone has any ideas or has had a similar issue I'd be grateful of some advise!! Quote

It took our main dealer a lot of research ... but in the end they replaced two relays (have no idea which) and now it is fine. Quote
