Jazz Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Hi! Ok this is my first time posting here. Sorry if I sound like a total nooby but I've only just got hold of a Galaxy and whilst I love it it appears to have some issues! Firstly I'm having issues with the central locking. It's VERY intermittent. 99pct of the time it won't work and on the odd occasion it will. Having taken off all the door panels I found most of the cables were disconnected. reconnecting them has made the drivers door lock work off the servo but no others. Having checked the computer unit under the passenger seat I've found it to be very water damaged. So I bought one off ebay which had no keys, (and also seems quite water damaged but not as bad), plugged it in and it's still as intermittent as before. Does anyone have any ideas! Secondly the new unit doesn't make the alarm LED on the drivers door light up. Does this mean the alarm system won't work unless I get new keys and program them to match the new alarm? I don't know much other than what I can find in a Haynes manual. lol. The old computer under the seat made the LED pulse dimly all the time and light up really brightly for about a minute when the ignition was turned on. The keys aren't remote locking. Thirdly water keeps appearing in the alarm/CL computer compartment under the passengers seat. Although I have put a couple plastic lids down to raise it far enough off the floor so it no longer gets wet I have no idea where the water is coming from and am worried it may be serious. Or is it a common problem? The water doesn't smell, isn't coloured and appears when it hasn;t necessarily been raining. I've put a hose on the car and still can't tell where the leak is, even after removing the trim and carpet. I think that's all for now! I very much appreciate any help anyone can offer. The only other thing I've now done is order a diagnostics cable to link up to my laptop and see what error codes get generated! Quote
jinksy Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 hi jazz,i got a 52 galaxy and its wet under the passenger seat.common fault i read on here.its the rear washer i believe.the pipe runs below the seat and it splits apparantly? when i first had my gal the parking sensors worked but rear washer didnt.i was playing around trying to make washer work but no luck.since then sensors dont work.read on here the pipe splits under passenger seat and wets control unit.i looked and its soaking.i manage without now.dont know about your cetral locking though mines ok except it goes off when alarm set so i just click key twice and it doesnt activate the internal sensor and wont go off in night and wake street up.hope you get it sorted. Jazz Posted October 11, 2011 Author Report Posted October 11, 2011 Hm interesting. I wondered if it was something to do with that although the rear washer seems to work ok. The rear WIPER on the other hand has a life of its own... I forgot to mention mines a R reg. I think that was '98. Thanks for the possible info jinksy. I've been hunting around this forum and see what you mean. :) Quote

At least I've found possible solutions to the water problem! *edit* But no answers to the old alarm/locking system. My one is NOT a remote system at all. they key has no lock/unlock button in it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Edited October 13, 2011 by Jazz Quote
Amarok Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 Hi and welcome to the forum, I have a P reg Galaxy Ghia, which I have owned for around 5 month's so I am getting the hang of this beast :).When I got mine the 'black box' under the Passenger seat wasn't there so like you I got one off eBay (there are around 5 different boxes). First point to note here the alarm is a optional extra so all the black box does is Central locking. If your vehicle was fitted with the alarm you should see the pressure sensors in the roof and the klaxon under the bonnet. Central /remote locking again was only fitted to the higher spec models i.e. Ghia, Ghiax and Ultima. The sensors are at the front by the rear view mirror and at the back by the hatch. There should also be a relay under the passenger seat, this relay does the business bit of the locking and unlocking after it has received the signal from the black box. compartment fills with water ?? easy peasy drill a hole at it's lowest point ;) I did and no more flooded black boxes Quote
