Guest Idris Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 a strange problem that someone may be able to help with. My 99 Ghia goes in for a 60k service next week, but over the last few days I have been having some strange problems with my rear brake lights. When I start the car in the morning, the two lights on dashboard that signify my rear lights do not go off when I touch the brakes. This has happened the last three days, but the last two they have gone off before I have reached the end of my road. This morning they stayed on until I nearly reached the office 25 miles away and when I got here, the lights were off so I got someone to take a look and apparently my brake lights aren't working ... Bulbs appear fine so I have no idea what is going on and am quite worried about the drive home now! Can't see if being a fuse but will check later on. Anyone experienced this before? thanks in advance folks! Quote
MrT Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 Could be the switches on the brake pedal are sticky, need adjusting or are faulty. Quote
lesgard Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 i have had this same problem with my 2.3 galaxy i found it to be the brake switch on the brake pedal.i fitted a new switch and have not had any problems since (touch wood) Quote
GalaxyPilot Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I'm an owner of a 1999 Galaxy 2.3 Ghia X and had similiar problems. It is definately the brake light switch which is located on the brake pedal behind the facia. I can't remember exactly how much I paid for a new switch but I think I paid around Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Cleaning the switch is very temporary. It is just putting off the inevitable for a short time. I'm sure someone will reply with " I sprayed mine with WD40/Servisol/etc and it's lasted nearly 10 years." Quote
ALARM MAN Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I sprayed mine with WD40/Servisol/etc and it's lasted nearly 10 years. Ok i never did But you tempted fate replace and have done They all recommend the right thing The typical comedian Quote
Guest arte et marte Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Hi, I actually did pull my brake light switch out and lubed it with some teflon based spay, worked fine now for nearly 2 years! Just as well because if the brake light switch goes on an auto it disables the auto box(wont allow the interlock to open as the box doesnt realise your pressing the brake). WD40 is a cleaner/penetrant and shouldnt be used as a lube. P.s Hello everyone im new! Quote
Denis Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 err.. I sprayed mine with Servisol and it lasted a couple of years before I sold the car.. Quote
