keo Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 Right to start of I've got a 2002 1.9tdi galaxy with white smoke pouring out of the exhaust when it's warmed up. Its not coming from the aux heater so I can rule that out, but interestingly i've managed to get hold of a cylinder head leak tester (the blue fluid type) and when testing the cooling system the fluid goes green indicating exhaust gasses in the cooling system. But the head gasket has recently replaced and the cylinder head checked for cracks before fitting so now i'm a little comfused at to what the problem can be. Egr cooler? turbo? or if the aux heater is faulty does it result in whiter smoke from the main exhaust system? Any thoughts would be welcome. Quote

If the head is 100% then EGR cooler is certainly a possibility (I have a spare if you need one). The turbo generally produces blue-ish smoke as its burning the oil and the aux heater only puts its gas out of its own exhaust. Quote
keo Posted September 22, 2011 Author Report Posted September 22, 2011 Thanks for the reply Mirez. Fortunatly i've got a spare cooler but i've bypassed the cooler for now just to see what the result is, will let you know in about 20mins with hopefully good news. Quote
