I have a 1.8 56 plate diesel and was running a bit rough for a few weeks (idling poorly and a bit noisier than it should be)

Had it checked with Ford and they said there was a problem with the 3rd injector and that it could be a problem..........

anyway i went to another independent garage to get 2nd opinion (and i had been unimpressed by the Ford garage on other work they did for me). The local garage also said that it was a 3rd injector problem (no response at all when plugged into the computer). They did say they could replace the injector but there was no guarantee that it would solve the problem.

Anyway i asked them to change the injector which they did. After hooking up the computer the new 3rd injector came up so they could see all 4 injectors on the computer/system, however the numbers they gave we not "correct" and the poor running continued. They added a supplement to the system to help clean it out and asked me to run it for a bit (i was very low on fuel at the time of fixing it) to see if things would right themsleves. They have asked me to go back in to check out the numbers and see what can be done next.

I am going back in later this week but wondered if anyone else had experienced similar issue and also does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions about what next steps/alternatives i should consider.

I am already getting a lot of grief from SHMBO as in 18 months i have had to spend quite a bit on this Ford.

Are there any software updates that would help out?

thanks

Hi, i had a similar sort of problem with my gal (i've a seperate thread about it) and in my case the fuel injector pump was breaking up and bits of swarf were found in the filter and subsequently in the injectors. After changing the pump hoses, injectors and a flush of the system the car is running like before. Although this cost me an arm and a leg its working ok now. I'd suggest checking your fuel filter to see if that has the same issues as I had. For reference my gal is on 95k miles.
