I have just bought 4 new tyres for my 2004 Galaxy, 215/55V16VERSX with new valves 4 weeks ago, from Kwik-Fit, but they keep losing pressure, I have been back to Kwik-Fit and they say the wheels need refurbishing, but I am not worried about the scratches & dinks in the Alloy wheels, they say the valve seatings are corroded, surely this should have been picked up when they replaced the tyres ?, has anybody else had this problem and what is the easiest & cheapest solution ?, how difficult is it just to clean, scrape the valve seats or can tubes be fitted ?.

My local tyre depot always clean the rims and valve seatings before they fit the tyres, they do this on all alloys not just Galaxy ones.

By the way what is the load rating of the tyres fitted? They should be Extra Load or Reinforced.

go to a proper tyre place, tell them whats happened-------------they will have stuff called "bead sealer". the tyre is deflated and the beads broken, so the tyre can be moved off its seating then its painted onto the wheel rims where they are pitted/corroded. its like liquid rubber, then they inflate the tyre again, thats it.

ripfit cant make money doing things like this so they dont push it, instead they put the onus on the driver to get new wheels!! smaller tyre places will do it and probably only charge to re-balance afterwards ????

I've had this with wheels before, the alloy corrodes and builds up and pushes the tyre off the rim causing it to deflate slightly. With the tyres off its easy enough to clean up the rims with a flap wheel on a drill........but the tyres need to be off which is a problem!

AGREED I beleive ripfit are pulling your chain its beadsealer all the way probabaley cost you a tenner a wheel to have done.

Funney thing is my grandad always said " cakes always taste better from a small shop than the supermarket ".Stick to local in future B)

If it's the valve seats that are corroded, it's a bit trickier to get at... but any tyre fitter worth his salt will have the valve seat cleaned up in a few minutes.

As the others have said above, an application of bead sealer such as Rimseal or RimTite between each cleaned up valve seat and valve stem will fix the problem.
