Hi all - I have a problem with the central locking on my mondeo (V Reg LX diesel) and any help would be appreciated.

A few weeks ago the fuse which controls the central locking blew for no apparent reason. I replaced the fuse and through trial and error now know that the fuse blows if the car is locked with the remote, or by using the passenger door (key or inside handle). Either way the handle on the inside of the drivers door pops in, then pops out and the fuse goes.

If the car is locked with the drivers door (Either with the key or the inside handle) then eveything is fine. There is no resistance (I had thought the handle was jamming/broken) and the world is a lovley place. In addition to this the LED by the clock flashes strangley when the drivers door is unlocked and this is accompanied by a brocken relay kind of clicking sound coming from somehere around the drivers footwell. When the drivers door is locked the LED flashed as usual - the alarm sets and the indicators flash etc.

When buying the fuses I mentioned fuses and central locking and the guy said "Mondeo", seems to be a known fault..!

I will gladly fix this myself as am reasonably handy but don't know where to start - any help gratefully received rather than me randomly replacing bits - Or giving ford stacks of cash.

Hi dionne,

Mine did the back door thing as well, pain in the neck but I thinkI've cracked it. This web Site (Mirez) has loads of info about central locking and alarms. Read it and check the connections it mentions, then do the alarm test (Link on the page). It seems to reset the system, don't understand exactly how but mine has been fine since I did this - A Week and a bit so far. Probably what ford would have done, only without the

Hi Guys,

I've not had blowing fuses...

but the alarm system has a mind of its own! The previous owner disconnected the siren and from time to time the alarm will go off (much clicking of relays from the control box by my right knee) as I'm actually driving.

Other times it'll disable the starter as I open the door and get in and I have to get out, lock then unlock and try again.

Recently I had the central locking running slow...I unlocked the drivers door and the other three doors unlock individually up to 7 - 8 seconds later.

Now the central locking has packed up totally.

I've changed the drivers door lock as the motor didn't seem right, and I've changed the 'door and alarm' control box (both from a scrap-yard). The three fuses are all ok and there's volts going into the control box but the central locking still doesn't work.

The front doors lock/unlock with the key but the rear doors don't lock at all.

I'm thinking of welding deadbolts to the inside of the doors and leaving it as a manual system!

I'll keep looking at it but any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Peter

Hi,

<PJ Proby voice>

#"the most beautifull sound in the whole wide world..."#

bzzzzd

The sound of doors locking!

From the common faults section in 'mad moles Mondeo madness' web-site (google search for Mondeo) and also from Mirez (see above), I noted the location of this dodgy wiring joint near the drivers seat (not a place I would have thought of looking!) and there it was. No wire at all, just a lump of green gunge. While it was damp it was conducting but as we had that hot spell last week it had dried out.

Must remember to water the carpets in future!

So I cut off the crap, bared the four wires and as I twisted the first two together there was this buzz from the front passenger door...most satisfying!

I must say at this point that I'm not impressed with Ford sticking a bunch of wires under the carpets where we can stand on them. I found two other damaged wires where the insulation looked OK but running my finger and thumb over them (to clean off the green dust!) I noticed a swelling that turned out to be rusty wires inside the insulation. They snapped off as soon as I put a bit of pressure on them.

The odd thing is I hadn't noticed anything at the back of the car not working.

Anyway, thanks to the guys who put all of these sites together, my old banger is back on the road for another year or two!

Regards

Peter
