Guest Rockdoctor Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 A few months back my trip computer stopped resetting, so every journey became a small part of an endless trip, effectively making the computer useless (although the long term average mpg was a bit higher than I expected, which was pleasing).I tried disconnecting the battery, and reconnecting, but it just started a new endless trip. Not worth doing before every drive.I gave up at that point and assumed I had lost that gadget. This summer my wife told me the car was dead, which was easily diagnosed as a flat battery (over the phone - she was abroad). The outcome was that the battery had been dying for ages, but because the engine always starts first turn, and we don't do many short trips, it didn't show up until one day it dropped below the power required to start the car. The new battery was an easy cure, but brought the added benefit of bringing the reset function back to the trip computer. So the message is; if your trip computer is mucking about, check your battery voltage. Quote
