Galaxy newbie Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 hi guys, just a couple of quick questions I could do with answering. 1. Can someone tell me at what temperature the radiator fans kick in, I know the stat starts to open at 88 degrees but not sure on the other. 2. Anyone used vagcom to check/adjust there timing after a cambelt change, and if so could someone give me some pointers. Thank you in advance. Andy. Ooh sorry also 3. I know the weather is warm at the moment but is there anyway of checking if my aux heater is working, as I read it only comes on when the weather is cold, have checked with vagcom doesn't really tell me anything. Also my front heated screen is not working but does have a crack in the glass would this be stopping it from working or is there another possibility have checked for breaks in the wiring, tailgate etc and nothing amiss there. Thanks for reading. Andy. :-) Quote
SilverBeast Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 (edited) 3. The outside air temperature sensor that the Auxillary/Booster Heater uses is clipped to the wiper assembly and is fitted just in front of the pollen filter. See pictures belowThe second picture shows the temp sensor still clipped to the harness with the wiper assembly removed (as I was unseizing it!). You can unclip the sensor with the wiper assembly still fitted. You can then either :-(i)Disconnect the connector and short together the two contacts on the harness plug with a piece of wire (which is easiest)or(ii) Dip the sensor in some ice or ice cream This will fool the system innto thinking that the outside temperature is cold. Your engine coolant temperature needs to be below 75C also for the booster heater to fire up. If you look in the FAQ section the first link is for the Aux Heater and well worth reading (if you haven't already). If you have VAG-COM you can monitor the sensor readings.
