Guest pinbot Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 My last post I said I was looking for top spec cars. Mrs pinbot (not her real name!) has pointed out that as we have twins her maternity leave will be longer this time. Thus much less cash than anticipated. Seen 2 cars today at independant dealer:1) 2003 (03) TD 115 Zetec. Totally standard in silver. Former airport taxi, theoretical FSH (Ford), 46K miles. Quote
HJT Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 Oh boy, twins, tell me about it  .My twins are now 7 years old, those first 6 months I have never been so tired in my life. Worth it though. As for the cars, check they have a full service record and if you can, get an inspection done on it. It's also worth an hpi check. There's no reason why a high miler diesel shouldn't go on for many thousands more miles without trouble if it's been looked after.Check the interior for damage though and that the aircon works etc. The 2003 is still within warranty but the BT one will be outside even if it's not yet 3 years old because of the mileage. Guest nelse Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 I recently bought a 53 plate TDI zetec (30/09/2003) for effectively Quote
Guest Andyjflet Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 I agree, the only way to get deals is to go out there and look at a car in the flesh and haggle. I spent 2 months looking for my Galaxy and its a cracker, bought it l;ast November on 03 plate for Quote
seatkid Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 Very much doubt airport taxi has only 46k (I presume you mean a long distance airport taxi). If it genuine then why are they getting rid? - Businesses usually run cars for 3 years minimum. Contact the former owner(s) and check the history with a Ford dealer to make sure. Anyone care to comment how easy is it to clock a Shalaxy? (Bet it's real commonplace) IIRC If a car has been used for Taxi work then the warranty will only be one year from new. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 Maybe it's been in an accident or had a failue that kept it off the road for a few weeks? Vehicles like this are usually kept running all hours of the day and night, so the low-ish age and mileage for a taxi does seem a bit odd. I know that some hire co's sell all accidnet-damaged vehicles ASAP as they can't afford to keep them lying around not being used. Quote
Tigger Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 There is a car advertised at work at the moment.02 ghia tdi 115 I think 20000miles goldy silver. private deal about Quote
Guest peeweepete Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 Hi i bought a '99 v galaxy zetec tdi @6 months old as an ex airport taxi (bristol)The milages are good as i know the guys that service them at the ford dealership 1 mile from the airport. Mine had done 32k its now on 97!!!!I've had no real probs with it only the maff which was replaced under ford warranty and the coolant fans also ford warranty. It still returns @40 to the gallon .The reason they shift them after 6 months is they buy them from ford in batches (for all the smaller type airports) and only pay 14k for them they use them for 6 months and then sell them --You can buy direct from the airport taxi firm -- or through a dealer. They are in a win win situation.. you can't always be so sceptical about mileages ---sometimes!! cheers peeweepete Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 High mileage ? My Gals now clocking 190,000 miles its 1999 1.9Tdi (red). Loads of little niggles like the cam belt tensioner disintegrating and the drop links knocking like hell at one point. But boy its still a lovelly drive and every one of my passengers comment on the comfort and smooth drive !! Most "Taxis" that are owned and operated privately are lovingly maintained as they are a primary source of income, however the fleet "airport" taxis are not as well looked after and after all if your only driving it as a tool from your company who is likely to have the concern over the little things ? Best buys are the privately owned and high mileage ones as they will already be maintained to a high standard. However do expect the locks and windows along with the seats and door cards to have had a hard life on any hire tyype vehicle, broken grills worn hinges and like mine window mechs worn out. Everyone who gets in during the summer opens the window and during the winter everyone slams the door as quick as possible. Good luck in buying a "richly appreciated Gal". Quote
