R4CH Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 (edited) Hi all - posting a query in the hope someone can please offer some advice. Just bought a 2003 Ford Galaxy 2.3 Ghia and the only thing that I can't get working on it are the parking sensors. I didn't have parking sensors on my old Mk1 Galaxy so I'm keen to get these working as we all know us women can't park to save our lives! The parking sensor button doesn't make a noise when pushed in, doesn't change position as in it doesn't stay stuck in or pops back out and there are no light indicators either or the switch or dashboard to say that it is working. Basically it does nothing! I've put it in to reverse gear and tried pressing the button and at no point do I get any 'beeping' or noise from it. Could somebody please tell me how I can get this fixed and what it is I need to look for to determine what the problem is or part that I need to get replaced? Also when the climate control is activated it isn't cold at all and I've heard that garages can 're-gas' car air-con units but does this principle still apply to climate control on the Galaxy? Would gratefully receive any help as I really want to get my new baby on the road with everything working as it should. Many thanks in advance and welcome your guidance - Rach x Edited July 30, 2011 by R4CH Quote
SilverBeast Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Hi R4ch, The parking sensor button doesn't stay in. It should just beep and light up when you push it and pop out again. It should also beep and light up when you select reverse. It turns itself off either when you press the switch again or get above 16mph. It sounds like it may not be getting any power, as I have a sensor on mine that is occasionally intermittent and that beeps continuously when it is faulty. Some one may have disconnected it if it had a faulty sensor and it became annoying. They mau have just pulled a fuse. Have a look in your handbook if you have it - mine is a 2005 diesel and mentions both fuses 2 and 5 (in the fusebox by the drivers right knee). They both affect more than just the parking sensors though so 5 (blue 15 amp) is more likely, though this would also affect the electric wing mirrors and reversing light (put it in reverse with the ignition on and the engine not running and see if the reversing lights come one). Someone more knowledgeable will be along who can help your further if this doesn't get you any further. If you can find someone with VAG-COM software they should be able to diagnose it for you. You can buy a lead yourself from ebay and use the free version on a laptop for around Quote
marcostig Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 dont go to kwikfit!! go have it checked at a good garage about Quote
R4CH Posted August 3, 2011 Author Report Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) thanks both - appreciate your replies. I've found a local garage that do car airconditioning servicing so will be trying them. I've given up on trying to fix the parking sensor issue. The button is just stuck - doesnt move when you press it at all and certainly never lights up as I'm told it should do. Just found out that the rear windscreen wash also doesn't work so after reading posts on the forum I'm getting a picture that everybody has the same faults! The previous owner just replaced the shield around the NS front fog light before selling the car but on testing all the lights I've discovered the fog light doesn't work that had the shield replaced on it. Is this an easy job to do myself as I've bought a new bulb, I'm just not sure on how to get to the old bulb to swap it out!. Do I pull the light fitting forward from the front of the grill or pull it backwards or maybe even turn it?!?! Can anyone please advise? Huge thanks again to anyone reading. I love my Galaxy and just want to get as many of the features working as possible  Rach x Edited August 3, 2011 by R4CH Quote
andywat Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Hi, i recently purchased a 52 plate diesel ghia and have issues with the Parking sensors amd air con. I also found that a lot of the buttons on the dash did not move, i just pushed very hard and they worked normally from then on, it apperas they get stuck if not used for a long time. Give it a try. My parking sensor system was dead, turned out the control unit under the front passenger seat had been disconnected? I suspected that the rear wash pipe had come loose at some point and flooded it, the the rear wash works now so i guess this was fixed. I reconnected the control unit and all sensors on the rear were clicking, but only 3 out of 4 on the front, easy fix i thought! I popped of the rub strip from the one corner of the front bumper to find the fault, the clip that holds the connector in had broken so i just taped it together and put it all back. Checked the system and all front ones now clicking, but now the entire rear system is dead!! Not sure how that happened? Also my Climate control does not work, i got a mobile aircon specialist out who seemed to know his stuff and spotted what was wrong in about 5 seconds. One of the pipes had split hence the system being empty, guy quoted Quote
R4CH Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 I just had my air-con checked and was told it was full and the problem was that there was nothing coming from the 'compressor'. An auto electrical engineer is looking at the problem on Wednesday and having had a quick look on ebay I'm worried as a compressor would appear to be anywhere from Quote
