I have recently purchased a 99 galaxy and the central locking works fine but the keyfob doesnt, I have tried programming

unlock door 3 times red light comes on

hold lock button and press unlock button 3 times

let go lock button

keyfob led flashes 5 times

led in door flashes 6 times

Everything goes right until door led flashes 6 times - it doesnt do it

I have tried this loads of times now and still the same

I have checked all the fuses

I have put new batteries in the fob

Any ideas please?

Your Remote fob has died. They all seem to do this with age and no fix possible but to get a new fob - if you do go this route make sure you get the exact fob type and frequency. Just because they look the same doesnt mean it'll work.

Many forum members have experienced the same. Mines dead too. First started working erratically - changed the batteries - didn't help - reprogrammed it a couple of times - didn't help - eventually stopped working completely (although the LED on the fob still works OK). Basically I think the either its stops transmitting or more probably the resonator frequency chip drifts out of spec. Old age....or inbuilt obsolescence....or crap quality control.

You need the correct insert for the key, you can often find them on ebay. Make sure the details on the key, particularly the manufacturer and frequency, match your old one.

Out of interest, what trim level is your car?

The only reason I ask is that my car came supplied with a remote key, however the car does not have remote locking. It was an option on Zetec, and came together with a fitted load area cover - neither of which my car has. This caused some confusion, not least for the dealer I bought it from - they bought a new remote from the Ford dealer, which of course didn't work either. I can vaguely remember a similar response from my car when I attempted to program a remote to it... it went through the motions, but didn't receive the signal from the remote.

I presume the original key had been replaced at some point, and the dealer had supplied a remote key in error.
