New to this

We have a 1997 Galaxy and the drivers lock barrel broke resulting in both electric windows stuck in the open position.

The barrel is obviously broken as the key can't turn it and I have been told that it might need a whole new locking system that could cost hundreds of pounds.

Is this right or is there a cheaper solutions

Thanks

Hi

I had the same (similar) prob on my 99 galaxy

I found a firm on e bay that does barrell repair kits

which replace all the internals of the lock for about 15 quid

the kit comes with full instructions but you must remember

to grease the barrell before you reinstall. The lock problem

also affected my electric windows as my galaxy and no doubt

yours is fitted with "Global closing" which means that

if the key is turned to the lock position in the barrell and

held for a few seconds it also returns all the windows to

the closed position and vice versa if held to the open position

( ie it opens the windows) I think what has happend In your case

is that the lock has failed / stuck in that position.

The repair is quite straight forward and just needs basic

tools and torx bits as I recall. The company on e bay is

eurolockz

hope this helps
