If you don't then you will encourage the new discs to wear unevenly. If the pads were good they used to re-face them, that is to dress the friction material so it is again flat and parallel to the back. This is also acceptable, but nobody bothers now as the cost of new pads is reasonable, and cheaper in most cases than re-facing. Edited July 19, 2011 by sparky Paul Quote
