speccymatt Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Good evening, I have been searching the internet for a fortnight after my Y plate Galaxy 2.3 has developed an intermittent fault and have now stumbled across this excellent forum. Having searched through the range of posts I appear to be the only person who has suffered from this same issue... During the really hot weather of three weeks ago, my car started beeping constantly telling me that the "luggage compartment" was open. The footwell lights also flicker on and off which made me think there was a loose connection somewhere. My normal mechanic had the car for a day and it didn't beep once. The same thing happened at the main dealer and when I called an auto electrician out. The car sometimes goes a few days without beeping, or will do just one or two beeps a day or, will beep on and off constantly. Sometimes, when it is not beeping, the open door light is on constantly and at others it is off. I have checked the wiring loom going from the body to the boot on the off side and there were some bent (slightly exposed) wires that I have taped up seperately with electrical tape and, whilst I thought this had helped initially, the beep returned. Does anyone have any ideas at all that could help?! I am going slowly mad! Matt PS Thanks to the site I am going to attempt to tackle my air conditioning and cruise control problems myself :-) Quote
chromedome Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Sometimes the wiring looks ok but it's not. The wiring has been known to break inside the insulation. So you need the check the wiring at the tailgate again to look for breaks within the insulation. If your pull one of the wires betwen your fingers and it feels "stretchy" then there's a good chance the wiring has a break. Quote
speccymatt Posted July 18, 2011 Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 Thanks a lot for the swift response; it is broken insulation that I have taped up with insulating tape! I am starting to think that I am going to have to replace the whole loom but then, I am new to this and could be using a sledghammer to open a walnut. I will keep searching the forums to avoid the inevitable... Matt Quote
