17sam17 Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Hi All, I have a 2001 ford galaxy 2.3 which has never been the most economical of cars but just recently it has started drinking petrol. Any obvious things to check? I have looked all around and cant see / smell any leaks and the car is being driven in the same style.... Cheers Sam Quote
17sam17 Posted July 16, 2011 Author Report Posted July 16, 2011 has it been serviced recently? It is probably due a service, I think it was last done in March 2010, I have only owned it since January 2011. It's covered 86,000 miles and was last services at 78,000 miles. I suppose thats a good first step. Does anyone know what it needs? Air filter / Oil and filter / Fuel filter? Spark plugs? Cheers Sam Quote
sparky Paul Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 (edited) Does anyone know what it needs? Air filter / Oil and filter / Fuel filter? Spark plugs? You can check the official service schedules for your Galaxy here... http://www.etis.ford...ScheduleForm.do If it's been main dealer serviced and stamped up, you should be able to work out where you are in the schedule and take up where they left off. If you are unsure what services the car has had, I would start with a major service, such as is listed for 80,000m. Any change in the car's performance, change in driving patterns, or any work done on the car recently? I noticed a modest but definite drop in MPG when I fitted an aftermarket exhaust - with a corresponding increase in power. What sort of MPG do you estimate you are getting? bfc1001 Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 (edited) probably worth servicing if u ask me . if u do it yourself ; its not that hard ;it should cost u no more than 70 pounds. might be worth taking out the air filter and having a look at it . if its black id guess it has nt been changed for a number of years . always best to check yourself . just because the book has been stamped dosent always mean the work has been done if u know what i mean.i used to own a 98 gal 2.3 and the fuel economy was nt brilliant , always found myself chugging round in high gears trying to eak out my petrol which in its self isnt really that good for the car . maybe a couple of weeks of hard driving may clear up the intake system .
