Guest nelse Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 just bought (well a couple of weeks ago), through a franchised dealer a 1.9 TDI zetec galaxy on a 53 plate (30/09/2003 first reg) with 11500 on the clock for 14,995 less Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 Welcome, sounds like a bit of a rough ride so far! The price you've paid seems very good - certainly when compared to prices in the Surrey/Hampshire area where I live (oh that I was still in Wiltshire....). Check your tyre pressures to sort out the noise etc - the Gal runs with pressures that are fairly high by today's standards, and also make sure that you re-check the pressures every few weeks to make sure that you know if, or how much, air escapes. Don't forget to check the spare too.Performance should not feel disappointing - maybe under-inflated tyres are contributing to this disappointment, but also the TDI engines are known to take a while to reach peak performance, so don't thrash it too much just yet! Guest nimrod Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 Doesn't help i'm not particualarly impressed with the performance and general ride/road noise........ I take it you have a 115 version? most TDI owners rave about the performance of their vehicle! especially the high MPG figures they seem to achieve! are there any symptoms to the alledged loss of performance? does it happed at a certain revs or all across the board? Guest nelse Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 cheers, thought i'd done ok, but always get that nagging feeling when making fairly snap decisions, must admit i wish i'd taken a little time as is usually the case after the event. Within the last few days i've had calls from a few dealers asking if i was still looking (had done some ringing around when the ford direct one dissapeared),as they had 03 TDI Ghia's available for between Quote
Guest nelse Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 hi nimrod, main problem is it just feels sluggish while accellerating, noticably worse in 4th, 5th, 6th, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, it's not as noticable but seems to really drop off as I change up, acceleration is best around 2000 revs but seems to run out of puff much above 2500, seems very flat, doesn't quite seem up to how other galaxies/sharans i test drove felt, occasionally it feels better and shifts quite well. I was just putting it down to the weight it was pulling but driving a mondeo 130bhp TDI i was blown away by the performance, it was like a rocket, could really feel it pulling the car, don't get the same feeling with the galaxy at all, thinking of arranging an extended test drive of another galaxy to from some sort of comparision. It just feels like it doesn't pull very well, it's sounds a bit noisier than i remember from the others i drove. Opened the bonnet last night and Engine Seems very lumpy, Quote
Guest nimrod Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 acceleration is best around 2000 revs but seems to run out of puff much above 2500, seems very flat, And how many times have we heard that? do a search on the topic of MAF sensors it may be of some help to you? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 Don't forget that the Gal is quite high-geared. Acceleration will be all but non-existant in 6th, not very wonderful in 5th and should be acceptable in 4th, but the payback is in the mpg figures, something that you may have gathered by now if you've read some of the other threads on this forum! The Mondeo has a newer design of engine, is lighter and has a much smaller frontal area so needs to push much less air out of the way when moving! Quote
Guest nelse Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 I never expected rapid and seat slamming acceleration like the mondeo delivered, but the differnce was so massive it was shocking. It just feels like there should be more available than there is, and thinking back to test drives in other galaxys they all seemed to offer quite a bit more, it's more a niggling feeling that all isn't as it should be, you never get the feeling the engine is pulling the car comfortably during acceleration and the power band seems to be very narrow. Never mind i'm off to give heartlands one last chance to supply my second key, i'll mention it them and see what they say, not that i trust there service department particularly. Quote
