keithday37 Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 I have recently changed a front wheel speed sensor on a mk 1 galaxy due to a faulty wire , but the light still stayed on.On ringing the local ford agent they wanted to put it on the tester as the abs should have cleared and I was not to drive it as the brakes were not safe ,all it needed was a road test {a few feet]as advised by a non agent garage .beware this would have cost me over Quote
Mirez Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 Not wishing to sound rude but its part of the procedure for virtually all ABS systems that the wheel be spun up after replacing the sensor, If Ford assume (rightly or wrongly) you have completed the work correctly then the natural conclusion would be that the system is still faulty. Its kind of 50/50 really, yes they probably should have checked you had calibrated the system again but equally you should have researched it fully before taking on the job. Quote
cyborg Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 hi kiethday37 and welcome to the forum, A couple of things to clear up ,If an abs Light is on the system automaticalley disables abs function so your car reverts back to old fashioned standard brakes making the car safe to get you home . To clear the lamp after fix drive over 40 mph or use vagcom to clear ABS fault. What usually happens when it goes wrong ; (for the benefit of people trying to solve ABS problems) The most comen failure is that the sensor has metal plates encased on plastic these rust expand and cause sensor to fail .The other problem is rust on cv joint where ABS ring breaks as rust expands. I think Quote
