dave morris Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 Just thought I would post to see if anyone knows if this is a regular problem or not?I have an 07 Galaxy 2.0 diesel 6 speed with around 75000 miles. All done by me and I have not thrashed it. It has been serviced at my Local Ford dealer since new and they seem very good. It has just had to have a new flywheel, clutch and many other related bits, as apparently the flywheel failed. Mega expensive! Should this really happen? Should I try to get Ford to chip in? Have there been any recalls, that my car may have missed and can I check anywhere?Dave Quote

The clutch on mine was slipping at 35k with the dealer saying it was just "one of those things". I protested saying I've only ever changed one clutch before and that had over 100k so I'm not someone who thrashes it. No use and still had to pay with no contribution from Ford. Quote

vale46 Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 My 07 Galaxy 1.8 Ghia had similar issue. Car was 1.5 years old, <7K miles. Fly wheel / clutch replaced (grease on flywheel causing clutch to stick when car had been idle). Fortunately the car was covered by warranty. Quote
Shedtastic Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 I've just been quoted £970 for a new dual Mass Flywheel and clutch on our 57 plate 2007 Galaxy 1.8TDCi.. I thought I'd check on here to see if there was any recall campaign (I'm shocked that it has failed at 70,000 miles!) but been told by Ford that there isn't..(there was for earlier galaxys where there was a flywheel fault, apparently..) Last hope now is that the warranty company will pay put as we bought a (probably worthless..) insurance backed warranty when we bought the car second hand. I'd imagine they'd say 'no' if it was just the clutch - but maybe as it's the flywheel?? Fingers crossed - but not holding my breath.. It's a right kick in the teeth too, as we emigrate soon and the car will be being sold in a few weeks! Though I suppose better than having a new buyer think I'd stitched them up if it were to have happened next month.. Quote
irishjag Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 Dear Forum, I had to replace our DMF and clutch a couple of months at at 85,000 miles on our 2008 2.0 TDCI. Cost Euro750 for parts (pattern, not oem) and Euro250 for labour.Have heard of the same thing on Volvos which use the same engine.Seems to be quite a common problem on these engines Regards Chris M, Wexford Quote
