Problem starting my 2.o tdci this morning, with the engine turning over but no fire. Looking at the pipes on the fuel filter, there is no fuel in there when the engine is turned. I have checked the fuses and relays and all seems okay. Next stop is the fuel pump, but not sure how to get access to it. Can someone advise or give me a work shop picture to give me an idea, where its located.

Thanks in advance,

Hi, I take it you have a mk3 gal if so the fuel pump is part of the fuel gauge sender unit & ive been informed by my local ford dealer that you have to drop the tank, i have the same problem but havent sorted it yet as ive just got back from my jollies, a deep pit or ramp would be ideal otherwise its a case of securing the front wheels on level ground then jack the back end up & block it, fuel pump/sender 94.00 from ford, i hope to be doing mine this week.

Hi Bluejon. Did the replacement of the fuel pump fix the problem? If not, how did you fix it? I'm having similar problems at the moment.

About a month ago it wouldn't start. I’ve never had any problem before. After many attempts I got it towed to a garage. They found the fuel line had air in it. They removed the air and it was fine. They couldn't find a leak but after some discussion on possible causes we agreed to change the fuel filter housing as they knew there had been problems with hairline cracks. It gave me the same problem the following day but started after a couple of attempts. The garage couldn't come up with anything else so I didn't have any more work done. It has since been fine until the other day when the same problem occurred again. It had been on a sloping drive (front of the car higher) overnight. After getting it on the level, leaving it for a hour or 2 and having lots of attempts, it eventually started. I've not had any problems with it since. I'd like to find out what is causing the air to get in the fuel line and your problem seems to be similar.
