Pete Hollands Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 Hi, Does anybody else have trouble moving ford roof bars fitted to a Mkiii. Having removed the covers and loosened the hex bolts, including those holding bars to the braces, I understand that you should be able to move the bar by pushing down on the bolt. This seems to have no effect on clearing the notch into which they lock. Any help appreciated. Thanks Quote
Harbuckle Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 You may have to loosen the bolt more, then push it down. Quote
Pete Hollands Posted July 3, 2011 Author Report Posted July 3, 2011 You may have to loosen the bolt more, then push it down. Tried that to the point where the bolt is almost out. Same on all four feet. Quote
dave morris Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 Hi, Does anybody else have trouble moving ford roof bars fitted to a Mkiii. Having removed the covers and loosened the hex bolts, including those holding bars to the braces, I understand that you should be able to move the bar by pushing down on the bolt. This seems to have no effect on clearing the notch into which they lock. Any help appreciated. Thanks I had this trouble when my 07 was still very new. The bars come with a little 'torque wrench' and I had never exceded the limit (though the dealer who sold me the car may have?). The bars gradualy became very hard to move as the fitting that pushes down to let them slide became so deformed that it would not release. I believe it is a design fault, as the new galaxies have a different fitting and tracks. I had to buy a new set of bars and persuaded Ford to give me a better price for them, than the originals which I bought as an optional extra. I think you will just have to carefully wiggle and pull, trying not to damage the track, until they come free, then not fit them again, as they will just jam up again. Good luck with them. Quote
Pete Hollands Posted July 7, 2011 Author Report Posted July 7, 2011 Dave, Thanks. I was thinking that may be the problem. Have always been careful when tightening the hex bolts. I had noticed that later models had been changed and assumed that it was due to realising it was a poor deign. Am off to a dealer soon to ask their opinion given that is where we bought them and had them fitted. I know it is a simple fitting job but it was in for service and time was against us so... Anyway, thanks for the reply. Pete Quote
