seatkid Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 And there I thought these things were plug and play nowadays, just plugin straight into the loom. Maybe I imagined that. Quote
Mirez Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Eek! Do you know what each wire is for? If yes then i'll tell you where to connect them, if no then you'll need to get handy with a multimeter and tell me what pin and on what socket the wire go's too! As for routing that's easy, just follow the parking sensor loom back. It's where the factory wiring would go and you'll fine the gromit's more then big enough. You then split the looms and route under the scuff plate to both rear sides to do the connecting. Quote
gregers Posted June 25, 2011 Author Report Posted June 25, 2011 aint got a scooby on what wires are for what, just wondered why i have a rather long black wire and some kind of sounder and what seems to be a relay of some sort. for info the wiring came off of a witter towbar. Quote
Mirez Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 indicator sounder and trip relay since you've got two plugs you'll have a permanent 12v feed Quote
gregers Posted June 25, 2011 Author Report Posted June 25, 2011 guys thats brillient, many thanks.now is this something that i can do myself or is it best left to someone who knows what there doing? Quote
mikej Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 (edited) Dead easy for a man of your talent, quick tip for you either crimp or solder the ends of the wires before you srcew them into the relevent terminals it will save you alot of headache later trust me been there and done it, last week actually  Edited June 26, 2011 by mikej Quote
gregers Posted June 26, 2011 Author Report Posted June 26, 2011 (edited) right attempted to wire this in today, but it doesnt seem to be working(theres a surpris :() now i didnt use the trip thingy or the sounder could this be the problem? i followed the info above and spliced into the correct cables, using a meter to identify etc.totally wired up the black plug but only wired up 2 wires in the grey plug,as i only have a trailer tent and will not need all the other wires. but got zilch. losing the will to live now. Edited June 26, 2011 by gregers Quote
mikej Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 (edited) If you don't mind me asking what are you towing as most caravans today have the later single socket not two, what happens if you just plug into the black socket, do you get any lights, indicators at all, is the ignition and lights on, black socket wired as the top 12N diagram, sorry got to ask? Edited June 26, 2011 by mikej Quote
seatkid Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 if you look here you will see 2 things -the kits seem to include a control unit and for your Galaxy the words "dealer coding compulsory" appear - that implies that the ECU needs to be coded to enable trailer socket wiring - remember its a CANBUS system and it has current sensing on the bulbs. gregers Posted June 26, 2011 Author Report Posted June 26, 2011 mike,i get zilch, black socket wired as info given. i cant see why it will not work,as there have been plenty of people even on here who have fitted there own bars and do not seem to have trouble. any other pointers? Quote
mikej Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 (edited) Don't suppose you have a light board to try? I have fitted a bog standard factor sourced 12N to my own (2001 model) a socket with the wires attached to be spliced into existing loom, it came with the audio alarm for the indicators and that's it from what i can remember. I have been using it for the last few years without issue untill last week well most of the wires came loose or snapped hence my comments earlier. Is yours any different than this as seatkid has already mentioned there are dedicated kits and i am not really sure which you have? If yours is the same as mine it will not be difficult to sort out, you could simply try for the voltage at the socket while someone is operating the various lights etc. I think it's a case of check your wiring on the black one first, make sure you have a good earth etc especially if you are not getting anything.I hope you had better luck with the mounting bolts lol  sorry couldn't resist, how soon do you need it up and running? Mirez Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 I would suspect that relay needs wiring in as its probably a bypass relay to protect the vehicle side of things. Do you have a closer photo of it? How many wires has it got? Quote
gregers Posted June 27, 2011 Author Report Posted June 27, 2011 well checked the trailer with another persons towbar and all working as it should,so that now points to a problem with my wiring(bugger) mirez heres some more pics. many thanks guys for your help. Quote
Mirez Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 Can't make head nor tail of that to be honest. Are the relay pins numbered? Quote
